Three Key Takeaways:
- Rogue FBI agent Johnathan Buma was arrested for leaking classified information and attempting to leave the country.
- Buma, who had a history of pushing the Russian collusion narrative, was involved in spreading false information about Trump and sharing sensitive materials for a book.
- His arrest highlights ongoing concerns about FBI corruption and misconduct, fueling the debate on whether the agency needs major reforms.
The FBI waged war against Donald Trump since he entered politics.
He’s finally seeing the fight turn in his direction.
And a rogue FBI agent was arrested that left Donald Trump grinning from ear to ear.
Anti-Trump FBI agent arrested for stealing secrets
The FBI used the Russian collusion hoax to stage a soft coup against President Donald Trump in his first term.
One of the worst FBI agents during Trump’s first term was arrested trying to leave the country.
FBI agent Johnathan Buma – a 15-year veteran who worked in counterintelligence – was arrested for illegally disclosing classified information.
Buma was getting ready to board a flight headed overseas at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City when he was arrested.
FBI agents arrested him on charges of disclosing confidential material.
He allegedly used classified FBI documents, text messages, and other sensitive material for part of a book he was writing.
“[Buma] printed approximately 130 files from the FBI’s internal network . . . some of which were clearly marked with warnings that made clear that the information was to be protected,” the charging document stated.
The theft of these materials began in October 2023.
Buma reportedly shared a draft of a book he was working on over email with associates.
“The book draft contained information that BUMA obtained through his position as an FBI Special Agent that relates to the FBI’s efforts and investigations into a foreign country’s weapons of mass destruction (‘WMD’) program,” the charging document explained.
He also shared portions of the book with classified material on social media.
The FBI placed him on leave in October 2023 after he took the materials.
Classified material that Buma stole ended up being printed in an article by a media outlet.
“In the fall of 2023, a U.S. media entity published an article containing confidential information related to an associate of a foreign government official and that BUMA knew he had a duty to protect,” the charging document said.
FBI agent pushed Russian collusion hoax
Buma came forward as a whistleblower in January 2022, alleging the FBI was ignoring potential Russian influence in the government.
He told Business Insider that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, a top Trump ally, could be “compromised” by Russian intelligence.
“Rudy Giuliani may have been compromised by individuals suspected of being involved in Russian counterintelligence influence operations,” Buma told Business Insider in 2023.
Buma peddled debunked conspiracy theories about Trump and Russia that legacy media outlets were eager to lap up.
His whistleblower complaint alleged the Russian Intelligence Service (RIS) pushed “derogatory information into the U.S. Intelligence Community (USIC) that would give the opposing political party, which had been shown to be favored by the RIS, a narrative to attack the character of [Joe Biden].”
The FBI was protecting Rudy Giuliani while targeting Biden based on false Russian information, according to Buma.
Buma was another grifter who was trying to cash in on his fame with Democrats after lying about Trump with a book.
The former FBI counterintelligence accused Trump of being sloppy with classified information before his eventual arrest.
