A Senior CNN Analyst Was Hit With a Nasty Surprise After He Tried to Prove MAGA Was Demoralized

Steve Bannon went on his own podcast and warned that MAGA had a "massive lack of enthusiasm" heading into November.

Now CNN's own data just proved him wrong.

And a senior CNN analyst was hit with a nasty surprise after he tried to prove MAGA was demoralized.

The Number Democrats Did Not Want to See

CNN senior data analyst Harry Enten walked through the polling live on air this week.

Among Democrats, 71 percent said they were certain to vote in November.

Among MAGA Republicans, the number was identical – 71 percent.

Think about what that means.

Democrats have had every institutional advantage in the enthusiasm game this cycle.

The media has been running wall-to-wall stories about a coming blue wave.

Activist groups have poured hundreds of millions into turnout operations.

Celebrity endorsements, protest movements, and nonstop Trump hysteria have been the Left's entire strategy for the past year.

And after all of that – their motivated base and the MAGA base are tied.

Enten also looked at whether Trump had lost support inside the MAGA coalition since 2024.

Trump won 99 percent of the MAGA Republican vote against Kamala Harris.

His approval rating among that same group now stands at 98 percent.

"In the 2024 election versus Kamala Harris, he got 99 percent of the MAGA GOP vote—perhaps surprisingly, I might have thought it'd be 100 percent, but it was 99 percent," Enten said. "Compare that to his approval rating now with the MAGA GOP. It's 98 percent; there's been no real decline in MAGA support."

Zero decline.

After two years of Iran coverage, tariff debates, deportation fights, and every left-wing institution on the planet trying to peel Trump voters away from him – the number barely moved.

What the Media Was Betting On

The entire Democrat strategy for 2026 was built on one assumption: MAGA voters would stay home.

Earlier this year, Reuters, the Washington Post, and virtually every mainstream outlet published poll after poll showing a massive Democrat enthusiasm advantage.

A February Washington Post-ABC poll showed Democrats leading on certain-to-vote numbers by eleven points.

Liberal strategists openly bragged about their turnout edge.

They compared this cycle to 2018 – when a Democrat wave flipped 40 House seats and handed Nancy Pelosi the Speaker's gavel.

The theory was simple.

Trump's policies were unpopular.

His approval was underwater nationally.

His voters would be demoralized.

That theory is collapsing.

MAGA Republicans have closed the gap entirely on the one metric that actually decides midterms: certain turnout.

Enten added a detail that makes the picture even worse for Democrats.

Sixty percent of MAGA Republicans say voting in this cycle matters more to them than in previous midterms.

Only 36 percent of non-MAGA Republicans said the same.

The voters most committed to Trump's agenda are the ones most committed to protecting it at the ballot box.

Why This Changes Everything

Here is what political analysts always get wrong about midterm elections.

Generic ballot numbers matter.

Approval ratings matter.

But turnout is the whole game.

In 2018, Democrats won the House because their voters showed up and Republican voters didn't.

Democrats are trying to run that same playbook in 2026.

The CNN data says it isn't working.

When MAGA turnout matches Democrat turnout, Republicans hold the majority.

That is not analysis – it is arithmetic.

Republicans currently hold a narrow House majority and a 53-47 edge in the Senate.

To flip either chamber, Democrats need their base to dramatically and consistently outperform Republican turnout all the way to November.

A tied enthusiasm number eight weeks out is not a Democratic victory condition.

It is a Republican one.
