Adam Schiff and the Democrats are staring defeat in the face.
The party picked a disastrous fight on impeachment that will end with Donald Trump’s exoneration.
And Adam Schiff issued one warning he will live to regret.
51 Republican Senators rejected Adam Schiff and the Democrats’ scheme to extend the impeachment trial by weeks and possibly months by staging a fishing expedition for new witness testimony.
That vote extinguished the Democrats’ final chance to notch a victory in the impeachment trial.
Adam Schiff led the Democrat team of House Managers in the impeachment trial.
And Schiff did not take defeat well.
Appearing on CBS’ Face the Nation, Schiff threatened Republican Senators with defeat at the ballot box.
“I’m not letting the Senators off the hook. We’re still going to go into to the Senate this week and make the case why this president needs to be removed,” Schiff ranted. “It will be up to the Senators to make that final judgment, and the Senators will be held accountable for it.”
Schiff went on to try and spin his defeat as a victory.
“I still think it’s enormously important that the President was impeached,” Schiff claimed.“By exposing [the President’s] wrongdoing, we are helping to slow the momentum away from our democratic values until that progress away from democracy can be arrested and we can return to some sense of normalcy and support for the founders’ ideal.”
Schiff is putting on a brave front in public. But the polling numbers have shown Donald Trump’s approval numbers are rising to the highest point of his Presidency in some surveys and his numbers against his Democrat rivals show the President gaining ground.
If the President’s re-election prospects are improving, then the chances of Republicans holding the Senate increase because so few voters split their ballots.
