Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the leading socialist in Congress.

She thinks the American people’s tax dollars should pay for her outrageous schemes.

But now Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is in hot water after she got caught taking this handout.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) likes to claim that she’s a member of the working class and often complains about how she’s struggling to make ends meet.

While the New York Congresswoman portrays herself as downtrodden, she grew up in a wealthy suburb of New York City and attended a prestigious private college in Boston.

Despite a generous taxpayer-funded Congressional salary of $174,000 a year and gold-plated benefits far more than what the average American receives, Ocasio-Cortez is complaining about being underpaid.

This supposedly working-class member of Congress drives a $59,000 Tesla and lives in a luxury apartment in Washington, D.C.

Because of the allegedly low pay and lack of perks for things like housing, Ocasio-Cortez complained that Congress is hostile to a “working class member.”

Ocasio-Cortez railed against “wealthy members” of Congress for voting against pay raises for members.

Members of Congress last voted to increase their pay in 2009.

But now Ocasio-Cortez’s wish is coming true thanks to a stealth pay bump currently being hammered out behind closed doors in the House.

A new policy will allow House members to be reimbursed for money spent on lodging, meals, and incidentals.

Under the new policy, House members will be able to claim certain expenses on reimbursement forms while on official business in Washington, D.C.

“This amounts to a HUGE pay raise for members of the House of Representatives,” Bloomberg Senate reporter Steven Dennis said. “They can now get hotel rooms, meals, apartments, etc. in D.C. paid for by taxpayers.”

Expanded reimbursements are a backdoor way to quietly funnel more money to members of Congress without voting for an unpopular pay increase.

The reimbursements are capped at a daily limit set by the General Services Administration.

Members of Congress are living a life of luxury compared to most Americans who are struggling to make ends meet in President Joe Biden’s disastrous economy.

Congressional pay is already more than double the median income in the United States.

Former Representative Mo Brooks (R-AL) slammed the change and pointed out that House members could already be reimbursed at least $39,000 a year.

“You can have a reasonable public policy debate on whether Congressmen should be paid more or less, whether they’ve earned what they got, whether they earned a pay raise,” Brooks told the Washington Examiner. “But there should be no debate about [whether] you’re doing it in public or doing it clandestinely. It’s the people’s money. It’s the people’s business. Any pay raise or improvement and compensation package ought to be done in the public arena. And this one was not.”

While many Americans are struggling, wealthy members of Congress like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are giving themselves a raise.
