Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the biggest name in Democrat Party politics right now.
She drives the movement to impose socialism on America with the ability to rally leftists on social media.
But Ocasio-Cortez just stopped Washington with this announcement she was quitting.
Democrats running for President embrace Ocasio-Cortez’s socialist policy proposals like the “Green New Deal” or abolishing ICE because of Ocasio-Cortez’s ability to rally the Democrat Party base through her social media savvy.
That’s why critics were stunned when Ocasio-Cortez announced she was quitting Facebook and scaling back her use of Twitter and Instagram to just the work week citing a “public health risk” during an interview on the “Skullduggery” podcast.
The Washington Post reports:
During her podcast interview, Ocasio-Cortez pointed to negative health consequences as a reason to scale back on social platforms.
“I actually think that social media poses a public health risk to everybody,” she said. “There are amplified impacts for young people, particularly children under the age of 3 with screen time. But I think it has a lot of effects on older people. I think it has effects on everybody. Increased isolation, depression, anxiety, addiction, escapism.”
Ocasio-Cortez, who writes all of her own tweets and Instagram posts, said she’s trying to limit her consumption of social media to the workweek. “Like every once in a while, you’ll see me hop on Twitter on the weekends, but for the most part, I take consumption of content, when it comes to consumption and reading, I take the weekends off.”
Some Democrats may take this as good news.
Her policy ideas are politically toxic.
There are Democrats that believe if the party has a chance to win in 2020, they must give Ocasio-Cortez and her socialist movement the cold shoulder.
If Ocasio-Cortez is going to cut back on her use of social media, she will also cut down on the amount of time she can rally Democrat voters to demand candidates come out in support of an agenda they know is a sure loser at the ballot box.
