New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is facing one crisis after another.
Now multiple women stepped forward to accuse him of sexual harassment and sexual assault.
And Andrew Cuomo just said the one thing about his scandals no one thought they would hear.
Andrew Cuomo recently released a statement addressing the allegations made by former aides Lindsey Boylan and Charlotte Bennett that Cuomo sexually harassed them when they worked for him.
Cuomo dismissed the allegations that he created a hostile environment with inappropriate comments about Bennett and Boylan by claiming he was just telling jokes that he thought were funny.
“At work sometimes I think I am being playful and make jokes that I think are funny. I do, on occasion, tease people in what I think is a good natured way. I do it in public and in private. You have seen me do it at briefings hundreds of times. I have teased people about their personal lives, their relationships, about getting married or not getting married. I mean no offense and only attempt to add some levity and banter to what is a very serious business,” Cuomo’s statement read.
Cuomo then admitted that the “jokes” he told about their looks and sex lives crossed the line and that he was “sorry.”
“I now understand that my interactions may have been insensitive or too personal and that some of my comments, given my position, made others feel in ways I never intended. I acknowledge some of the things I have said have been misinterpreted as an unwanted flirtation. To the extent anyone felt that way, I am truly sorry about that,” Cuomo added.
Cuomo then denied allegations from Bennett that he tried to proposition her for sex and that he forcibly kissed Boylan without her consent.
“To be clear I never inappropriately touched anybody and I never propositioned anybody and I never intended to make anyone feel uncomfortable, but these are allegations that New Yorkers deserve answers to,” Cuomo continued.
But it was Cuomo using the word “sorry” that caught everyone off guard.
Cuomo is a famously combative politician who is known as a bully that never gives an inch.
When Cuomo came under fire for hiding the true body count from his order mandating nursing homes take in Coronavirus patients, Cuomo blamed nursing home staff and the deceased’s family for bringing COVID into the facilities.
However, in this case, Cuomo knows he is in trouble and quickly apologized hoping it could help him move past this threat to his political viability.
