The Democrat Party spent fifty years running away from the word socialist.
Now their most famous strategist is begging them not to run toward it.
And James Carville just issued one warning that should terrify every Democrat in Washington, DC.
AOC Rejoins the Socialists Right Before the Race Starts
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez quietly rejoined the Democratic Socialists of America this month – after letting her dues lapse and her membership die without anyone noticing for seven years.
She didn't announce it.
DSA announced it for her.
DSA chapters in Los Angeles and Atlanta have already passed formal resolutions calling on her to run for president.
New York City's DSA chapter is expected to pass a similar resolution in November.

This is not speculation.
This is a launch sequence.
The Timing Tells You Everything
It was an accident – AOC simply stopped paying dues, and neither she nor DSA's national leadership caught it until she publicly described herself as a member of the New York City chapter while technically not belonging to the national organization.
The group investigated.
Then they went public.
"While it is atypical for DSA to address the membership status of individuals," DSA wrote, "ongoing discussions about the 2028 presidential campaign have prompted this release."
Translation: her socialist credentials needed to be in order before the presidential campaign conversation went any further.
One political strategist told Newsweek the timing of her renewal – right as DSA chapters are drafting her for 2028 and the organization begins its formal endorsement process – is not a coincidence.
It never is.
What Carville Knows and Won't Fully Say
James Carville appeared on Fox News this week and said the quiet part loud: Democrat voters are not going to nominate a DSA candidate in 2028.
"The Democrats have never nominated the most liberal candidate," Carville said, "and they're not going to do it in 2028."

He praised AOC personally – called her "very talented" and "very articulate" – while predicting any DSA presidential candidate would flame out before leaving the first two primary states.
But Carville's warning deserves some historical context he didn't provide.
In 1972, the Democrat Party nominated George McGovern – the most left-wing candidate in their primary field, backed by the antiwar movement, despised by the centrist establishment.
Nixon won 49 states.
McGovern carried Massachusetts and Washington, D.C.
The party spent twenty years rebuilding from that catastrophe.
Carville knows that history better than anyone.
He built Bill Clinton's entire 1992 strategy around never making that mistake again.
The Socialist Surge Is Real and the Numbers Prove It
DSA-backed candidates have won nearly half their primary races in the 2026 midterms.
That is not a fringe movement clinging to a few safe House seats.
That is a movement that now controls New York City – the largest city in America – through Zohran Mamdani, a DSA mayor who beat the Democrat establishment in his own primary.
The movement has won primary races in New York, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Michigan, and a Senate nomination in Florida.
The raw numbers: 282 DSA-endorsed candidates on ballots this cycle, 123 primary victories.
The base is moving left. Fast.
Carville is essentially telling his own party: the voters who show up to Democrat primaries are dragging you somewhere the general election can't follow.

Trump carried 312 electoral votes in 2024 against a candidate who couldn't answer a basic question about what she would do differently than Biden.
Imagine that same general electorate facing a candidate who just rejoined the Democratic Socialists of America the month before announcing.

AOC is talented – Carville is right about that.
She is also the single most polarizing figure in Democrat politics outside of Hillary Clinton, with sky-high negatives among the suburban voters Democrats need in Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
The DSA's primary machine is built for blue districts where turnout is low and organizing is everything.
The general election is different.
McGovern's coalition looked exactly like AOC's coalition does today – young, urban, ideologically energized, convinced the country was with them.
Nixon still won 49 states.
Carville knows what happens when Democrats nominate their most exciting primary candidate instead of their most electable one.
He's saying the quiet part out loud because the loud part is already happening.
