Major League Baseball relocating the 2021 All-Star game out of Atlanta was celebrated in many parts of the Left.
But some Democrats instantly knew they made a huge mistake.
And Baseball moving the All-Star game was bad news for this big name Democrat.
Failed 2018 Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams was one of the first Democrats to spread lies and misinformation about Georgia’s new election integrity law.
Democrats – like Joe Biden – followed Abrams lead in falsely deeming the Georgia laws “Jim Crow 2.0.”
Biden went on ESPN and urged baseball to move the All-Star game out of Atlanta and within days MLB followed Biden’s command.
That decision quickly backfired on Georgia Democrats who cheered the boycott after it came out that moving the All-Star game out of Atlanta would cost the city $100 million and also hurt many black owned businesses.
Abrams – who wants to run for Governor in 2022 and pretends that she won the 2018 race – quickly released a statement begging other corporations not to boycott Georgia over the election integrity law.
“I am disappointed that the MLB is relocating the All-Star game; however I commend the players, owners and League commissioner for speaking out. I urge others in positions of leadership to do so as well. As I have stated, I respect boycotts, although I don’t want to see Georgia families hurt by lost events and jobs. Georgians targeted by voter suppression will be hurt as opportunities go to other states. We should not abandon the victims of GOP malice and lies — we must stand together,” Abrams wrote in a statement.
Abrams knows she can’t be seen as colluding with businesses to sink the state’s economy through financial blackmail if she has any hope of winning the race for Governor.
But it may already be too late.
The speed with which Abrams and other Georgia Democrats raced to make it clear they do not support economic boycotts said it all for how worried Democrats are about how much political damage they have inflicted upon themselves.
