Chuck Schumer just learned some really bad news in this key swing state

Democrats are defending the narrowest possible majority in the United States Senate.

Republicans only need to flip one seat to reclaim the majority.

And Chuck Schumer just learned some really bad news in this key swing state.

Most political pundits and election forecasters believe whoever wins the open Senate seat in Pennsylvania will control the majority next year.

Retiring anti-Trump RINO Pat Toomey currently holds the seat.

Democrats viewed that seat as the best chance to play offense and flip a GOP-held seat.

Any gains by Democrats make it more difficult for Republicans to fire Chuck Schumer.

But the news out of Pennsylvania is not good for Democrats.

Far more Democrats are switching to register as Republicans than Republicans are switching to become Democrats.

The Democrats have always outnumbered Republicans in Pennsylvania, but today Democrats hold their smallest registration lead since 2005.

Reuters reports:

Nowhere is the Republican advance in voter registration more evident than in Pennsylvania, where so far this year Republicans have converted four Democrats for every Republican who has switched to the Democratic Party, according to data published by Pennsylvania’s Department of State. That’s on track to be the highest conversion rate in at least a decade and well above 2016, when Republicans took the White House, House of Representatives and Senate.

“This is bad news for the Democrats,” said Kevan Yenerall, a political scientist at Clarion University in Clarion, Pennsylvania. While registered Democrats still outnumber registered Republicans by more than half a million in Pennsylvania – 4 million Democrats to 3.4 million Republicans as of March 28 – the long-held Democratic advantage continues to narrow and is on pace to be the smallest in a general election since 2005.

Pennsylvania is seen as the key quintessential swing state.

In 2016, Donald Trump became the first Republican to carry the state since 1988.

Pennsylvania was also at the center of the 2020 campaign, with Joe Biden narrowly winning the state.

The rate of Democrats switching to become Republicans does not bode well for Democrats’ chances to flip this seat.

The Democrats most likely candidate is Lieutenant Governor Gary Fetterman, who is a Bernie Sanders-like socialist who stakes out extreme positions on eliminating the legislative filibuster and social issues.

It is Democrats like Fetterman – who are soft-on-crime and who support open borders – that are driving traditional working-class Democrats into the GOP.

And these voter registration numbers out of Pennsylvania show the state could be moving out of reach for Democrats this fall.
