Chuck Schumer is clinging to power by the narrowest of margins.
Now Schumer got some bad news.
And Chuck Schumer never knew what hit him after this top Democrat crossed the aisle to the GOP.
Republicans only need to flip one Democrat-held seat to reclaim the Senate majority in the 2022 election.
Democrats are looking for Republican-held for pickup opportunities to provide a margin error in case they lose seats in Georgia, Arizona, Nevada, or New Hampshire.
One such seat Democrats have looked at is Lisa Murkowski’s seat in Alaska.
Murkowski is facing a pro-Trump primary challenger after voting to convict Trump in the Democrats second impeachment trial.
An open seat race is always easier to win than a race where an incumbent is facing a challenger.
Alaska’s new ranked choice, top four election system could throw the contest into chaos.
A Democrat could theoretically win the race being everyone’s number two choice.
Instead, West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin sabotaged his party’s chances by endorsing the pro-abortion, pro-impeachment RINO Lisa Murkowksi.
“I’ve met a lot of good people in Alaska, they know when they’ve got the real deal. And they see the person that basically is bringing both sides together, trying to look for the best interest,” Manchin said in an interview with POLITICO. “People understand that they have a person that understands Alaska and has Alaska in her blood and in every part of her veins and every morsel of her body.”
Murkowski is a top target on both the Left and the Right.
In March, Donald Trump promised to campaign against Murkowski after Murkowski supported the impeachment scam.
“I will not be endorsing, under any circumstances, the failed candidate from the great State of Alaska, Lisa Murkowski,” Trump wrote in a statement back in March. “She represents her state badly and her country even worse. I do not know where other people will be next year, but I know where I will be — in Alaska campaigning against a disloyal and very bad Senator.”
Murskowski dug an even deeper hole on the Right by voting to confirm Biden’s radical, anti-police Department of Justice nominee Vanita Gupta, even after Republicans accused Gupta of perjuring herself during her confirmation hearing.
Murkowski’s seat may be in jeopardy, but Manchin is trying to save her career.
