Democrats and the media poured everything they had into defeating Brett Kavanaugh.
But now the FBI investigation is complete.
And CNN admitted something no one saw coming.
The FBI interviewed ten witnesses over the course of their one week supplemental background investigation.
No witnesses corroborated any of the allegations against Kavanaugh.
And given the accusers have no credibility, all signs pointed toward the Senate confirming Kavanaugh.
The Democrats were facing the prospect of defeat head on.
And of all people, CNN Political Director David Chalian drove the final nail in their coffin.
He said the FBI report was ‘ballgame.’
The Hill reports:
“I think the ballgame’s over here,” CNN political director David Chalian said on the network after Collins said the FBI’s review appeared to be “very thorough.”
“I think that’s why … Susan Collins’s statement is a hugely significant moment, because the entire argument from the Democratic side about the investigation was that it wasn’t thorough, that it wasn’t complete,” Chalian added.
Chalian and anchor Kate Bouldan noted that Collins and Sen. Jeff Flake(R-Ariz.), two key GOP swing votes on Kavanaugh’s nomination, had previously expressed concerns about how the allegations against him were being handled.
The Democrats’ stall tactics failed.
They hoped the one week delay would produce new accusers or evidence Kavanaugh lied under oath.
Instead, Kavanaugh is on track to be confirmed to the Supreme Court over the weekend.
