Donald Trump announced his re-election campaign in a primetime speech at Mar-a-Lago.
Within 24 hours, Democrats launched an effort to stop Trump.
And Democrats found one scary loophole to ban Donald Trump from becoming President.
Democrats claim Donald Trump and Trumpism are unpopular and that the voters rejected both in the 2020 and 2022 elections.
But Democrats don’t really believe their own rhetoric, as key Party members are not willing to take the chance of Trump appearing in front of the voters in 2024.
Rhode Island Congressman David Cicilline – a House impeachment manager in one of Nancy Pelosi’s failed witch hunts – circulated a letter to his colleagues urging them to use a section of the 14th Amendment to ban Donald Trump from running for President in 2024.
“This language in our Constitution clearly intended to bar insurrectionists from holding high office in the United States,” Cicilline wrote. “Given the proof – demonstrated through the January 6 Committee Hearings, the 2021 impeachment trial, and other reporting – that Donald Trump engaged in insurrection on January 6 with the intention of overturning the lawful 2020 election results, I have drafted legislation that would prevent Donald Trump from holding public office again under the 14th Amendment.”
Section 3 of the 14th Amendment was ratified after the Civil War when Congress sought to prevent Confederate military officers from ever holding elected office again.
The section reads “No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”
Donald Trump was not a Confederate military officer nor did he wage an insurrection or rebellion against the United States government.
On January 6, Donald Trump did not advocate for violence and even urged his supporters to peacefully protest.
“I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard,” Trump stated.
If Democrats were so sure Trump would lose in 2024, they would not be launching Hail Mary bids to stop him.
