Democrats got bad news on impeachment when this key Senator was rushed to the hospital

Democrats could not have asked for a more disastrous start to their effort to convict Donald Trump on their article of impeachment following the riot at the Capitol.

The whole effort imploded on Day One.

And Democrats got bad news on impeachment when this key Senator was rushed to the hospital.

On the day Senators were sworn in as jurors, President Pro Tempore Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy – who was scheduled to preside over the trial – was whisked to the hospital.

“This evening, Senator Leahy was in his Capitol office and was not feeling well,” a Leahy spokesman wrote.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the Attending Physician recommended that he be taken to a local hospital for observation, where he is now, and where he is being evaluated.”

Fortunately, all tests came back negative and Leahy was in good health and expected back at the Senate.

“After getting test results back, and after a thorough examination, Senator Leahy now is home. He looks forward to getting back to work,” Leahy’s spokesman later announced.

On this same day, Democrats also learned their impeachment gambit to convict Donald Trump and bar him from ever holding office again would fail as 45 Republican Senators voted with Rand Paul to dismiss the article of impeachment as unconstitutional due to President Trump being out of office.

That vote was seen as a fairly reliable head count as to what the eventual vote on the verdict will be.

Just five Republican turncoats voted with the Democrats on proceeding with the trial so if the Democrats only have 55 votes against Donald Trump, that will put them far short of the 67 votes necessary to convict Trump proving once again that this sham impeachment trial is a complete waste of time and taxpayer resources.
