Donald Trump and Israel Just Made Kim Jong Un Rewrite His Own Constitution

Israel killed Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in a strike on Tehran – and Kim Jong Un took notes.

Now Kim has changed his country's fundamental law in direct response to that killing.

And what he put in that constitution should make every American paying attention deeply uncomfortable.

The Dead Hand Clause Kim Just Made Official

North Korea's Supreme People's Assembly met March 22 in Pyongyang and approved a constitutional revision with one central purpose.

If Kim Jong Un is killed, North Korea launches nuclear weapons automatically.

Not "will consider launching." Not "reserves the right to respond."

The revised provision states that if North Korea's nuclear command-and-control system is placed in danger by hostile forces, "a nuclear strike shall be launched automatically and immediately."

South Korea's National Intelligence Service confirmed the update this week after briefing senior government officials.

Kim didn't invent this from scratch.

The Soviet Union built a system called Perimeter in 1983 – a dead-hand nuclear launch mechanism designed to guarantee retaliation even if Soviet leadership was wiped out in a first strike.

The Soviets kept it secret and never wrote it into their constitution.

Kim wrote it into his.

What Kim Saw When Khamenei Died

Khamenei was killed in a coordinated U.S.-Israeli military operation – Operation Epic Fury – that struck Tehran directly and eliminated Iran's Supreme Leader along with other senior officials.

Kim watched a fellow authoritarian get killed by a targeted strike.

He watched the world's most advanced military precisely locate and eliminate the top of an authoritarian government's chain of command.

And he drew the obvious conclusion: conventional deterrence is not enough when your enemy can reach through your entire defense apparatus and kill you personally.

The constitutional revision came weeks after that operation.

The timing is not a coincidence.

Kim Is Treating South Korea as a Foreign Country Now

The dead-hand clause is not the only thing Kim changed.

North Korea also revised its constitution to formally define its territory as bordering South Korea – stripping out all previous references to reunification and treating the two Koreas as permanently separate states.

For 70 years, the Kim family framed the peninsula's division as a temporary wound – reunification was the stated goal, even if the methods were violent.

That language is gone now.

Kim has declared South Korea the "most hostile" state to North Korea and said his military could "completely destroy" it.

He is not talking about reunification.

He is talking about obliteration.

The Bill That Democrats Handed Kim Jong Un

Kim has done all of this in a matter of months: watched the U.S. and Israel kill a head of state, rewrote his constitution to guarantee nuclear retaliation if anyone tries the same on him, launched cruise missiles and anti-ship missiles from a destroyer in April, and formally buried any pretense of wanting peace with his neighbors.

He is building a legal framework for nuclear war – not just a military capability.

Bill Clinton signed the 1994 Agreed Framework, handing North Korea fuel oil and reactor components in exchange for a promise to halt its nuclear program.

North Korea pocketed the concessions and kept building.

Barack Obama watched Kim's nuclear tests in 2006 and 2009 and responded with calls for dialogue.

Biden spent four years extending offers of unconditional talks and received missile tests in return.

Every one of those men told themselves patience would eventually work.

It didn't.

Kim Jong Un just constitutionally mandated automatic nuclear launch – and every Democrat who enabled his program along the way owns a piece of what comes next.
