Donald Trump Flew Into a Rage After a Judge He Appointed Handed CNN a Temporary White House Win

CNN spent years lying about Donald Trump.

Now a judge Trump himself put on the bench just handed them a temporary pass back into the White House.

But what the judge's ruling actually gave Trump – buried in the legal fine print – is exactly the roadmap he needs to make this ban permanent.

The Same Judge Who Did This in 2018 Just Did It Again

U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly – a Trump appointee – issued a 14-day temporary restraining order Thursday requiring the White House to "immediately return, reinstate, and restore" press credentials to CNN, MS NOW, and Politico.

Trump banned all three outlets on September 18th.

His Truth Social post was direct: "I am proud to announce that, effective immediately, I am banning Fake News CNN, MSNOW, and Politico from the White House as a result of their constant 'reporting' FAKE NEWS!"

And in case anyone missed the message: "Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow."

Kelly's ruling is not a verdict – it's a temporary hold while the legal battle plays out.

The judge found the outlets "likely to succeed" on their due process claim – not their First Amendment claim.

That's an important distinction.

Why the Government's Argument Is Already Stronger Than It Looks

The White House argued press access is a privilege, not a right.

That argument isn't radical.

Courts have recognized for decades that the president controls access to his own house.

Where Trump's team faces a tougher road is the procedural question – due process requires some form of notice and opportunity to respond before revoking a credential.

Kelly flagged the same issue in 2018 when he briefly restored Jim Acosta's press pass after Trump's first term showdown with CNN.

That case ended with Acosta back at the White House and the lawsuit quietly dropped.

Trump can do the same thing here – and this time with three outlets instead of one reporter.

It can establish formal written standards for credential revocation, provide notice to the three outlets, and then ban them again through a process that satisfies due process requirements.

The 14-day window isn't a defeat.

It's a roadmap.

CNN Is Celebrating a Two-Week Reprieve Like It Won the Super Bowl

Politico – the same outlet Trump pointed out received an $8 million government subscription under Biden – is celebrating a two-week reprieve as if it's a constitutional landmark.

MS NOW, the network that had to change its name from MSNBC because its ratings collapsed so completely the brand became a punchline, is claiming vindication.

CNN – which spent years promoting the Russia collusion hoax, the Steele dossier, and wall-to-wall coverage designed to destroy Trump – wants back in the building they spent years treating like an enemy installation.

And five major television networks – Fox News, ABC, CBS, CNN, and NBC – briefly suspended White House pool coverage in a coordinated show of solidarity that collapsed almost immediately.

Fox News dropping out of the press pool to stand with CNN is worth pausing on.

Fox didn't stay out long.

This Fight Is Exactly What Trump Wants

Trump has been building this case for eight years.

Every lie CNN told. Every fake story Politico ran. Every hour of MS NOW programming designed to gaslight the American public.

The courts just gave him two weeks to get his paperwork in order – and then he can finish this the right way.

The outlets that spent years calling Trump a fascist for challenging their coverage are now relying on the courts to force their way back into his house.

The outlets that claimed he was a threat to democracy need a federal judge to make him talk to them.

That's not a free press flexing its constitutional muscle.

That's the fake news media proving it has no audience without mandatory access to the most powerful man in the world.
