The media mocked him when he created the Space Force.
Now that branch of the military protects American satellites, GPS, and battlefield communications – and every serious defense expert agrees it was the right call.
Donald Trump just announced he's doing it again – and the people screaming loudest about AI danger suddenly have nothing to say.
The Move Nobody Saw Coming
President Trump announced this weekend that he's creating an "AI Force" modeled directly on Space Force, along with appointing a new AI czar to lead the administration's handling of the technology.
The Space Force, signed into law in December 2019, became the first new branch of the U.S. military in 72 years.

The critics called it a joke.
They made Netflix shows mocking it.
Today, the Space Force is a serious military command with a seat at the Joint Chiefs table.
Trump's Truth Social announcement offered few structural details about the AI Force – same as the early Space Force days.
What it offered was clarity on the core strategic logic: America must control AI the same way it must control space.
"However, we will also be looking for BAD, and we can do that, very easily, with our already existing Criminal and Civil Justice System," Trump wrote.
China Is the Only Reason This Matters
Whoever wins the AI race wins the next century.
Not wins economically. Wins militarily. Wins geopolitically. Wins the ability to set the rules for every nation on earth.
Congress already knows it. The House Foreign Affairs Committee heard testimony this year that AI chip dominance is now a central national security challenge facing the United States.
China isn't slowing down to have a feelings conversation about guardrails.
China is building.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was in New York this weekend meeting with Chinese counterparts, setting up a mechanism where the two countries can alert each other about AI-related national security concerns.
Xi Jinping is visiting the U.S. this week and meeting Trump on Wednesday.
This isn't casual diplomacy.
This is two superpowers staring at each other across the most consequential technology ever developed.
The Big Tech Trap
Obama's Silicon Valley donors spent years demanding Washington regulate AI.
Big Tech executives – the same people who maxed out donations to Kamala Harris and funded every woke cause on earth – are now calling on the government to slow down AI development and put "guardrails" in place.
Think about who benefits from that.
The companies already at the top of the industry write the rules that make it nearly impossible for smaller competitors to rise.
You get big. You call for regulation. You write the rules in Washington. You pull the ladder up behind you.
David Sacks – who served as Trump's first AI czar before his government tenure ended in March – called this out bluntly: when AI giants push for a slowdown, they aren't doing it out of concern for humanity.
They're trying to capture the industry.
Trump recognized the play immediately, writing on Truth Social that there is a "SICK conspiracy going on against AI" and warning that China is the only winner when Americans pump the brakes.
Every regulation these Big Tech donors push in Washington is a regulation China doesn't have to follow.
This Is What Winning Looks Like
Obama spent his Friday at Colgate University criticizing Trump's approach.

He warned about a "gap of at least a couple of years" where AI is moving fast and the administration lacks a "serious regulatory framework."
Ro Khanna went on Face the Nation to express doubt about Trump's AI Force, saying he doesn't know what Trump's vision is.
They don't understand what they're watching.
They said the same things about the Space Force in 2019.
Now Space Force guardians protect the GPS signal in your phone, the satellites guiding American missiles, and the communications backbone of every military operation on earth.
Trump isn't building a regulatory committee.
He's building a military-grade command structure for the most important strategic domain in human history – while Xi Jinping is on a plane to Washington to meet the American president who just announced America's AI Force.
Obama can give speeches at Colgate.
Trump will keep building.
