Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis are by far the two most popular choices for the GOP nomination in 2024.
The two may even square off in a Republican Presidential Primary.
And Donald Trump said these five words about Ron DeSantis running for President in 2024.
Reports indicate that both DeSantis and Trump are gearing up for a 2024 Presidential campaign.
DeSantis racked up a $125 million war chest and the Washington Post reports his wife Casey wants him to run for President in 2024.
The Washington Post reports:
DeSantis has been quietly building his fundraising networks while grabbing national headlines for his challenges to the Biden administration and for his focus on culture war issues. Without mentioning Trump, he has told donors, “No one’s nomination is inevitable,” according to a person to whom his comments have been relayed.
Beating Trump’s 2020 margin of three percentage points in Florida has become a key campaign goal, according to three people familiar with the conversations. They said DeSantis’ wife, Casey, a former television host and among a small circle of confidants, wants him to run for president.
The New Yorker contacted President Trump to ask for his thoughts on DeSantis running for President in 2024.
Trump bore DeSantis no ill will if he decided to run for President, saying it was completely up to the Governor.
But Trump told the New Yorker “I think I would win” if the two went head-to-head in 2024.
The New Yorker reported:
Trump told me that he was “very close to making a decision” about whether to run. “I don’t know if Ron is running, and I don’t ask him,” he said. “It’s his prerogative. I think I would win.” In nearly every poll of likely Republican contenders, Trump still has a solid advantage: DeSantis’s constituency was Trump’s first. Trump seems to want to keep it that way. A consultant who has worked for several Republican candidates said that the former President had talked with confidants about ways to stop DeSantis: “Trump World is working overtime to find ways to burn DeSantis down. They really hate him.”
Polls show Trump as the frontrunner with DeSantis in second place in a 2024 GOP Primary.
If Trump does not run, DeSantis is the leader of the pack.
However, it is looking increasingly likely that both President Trump and Governor DeSantis will declare themselves candidates in 2024.
