Democrats wanted to use the January 6 Committee as a third impeachment of Donald Trump.
But Trump found a way to upend those plans.
And that’s because Donald Trump signed one letter that had all hell breaking loose.
In a letter to Steve Bannon’s attorney, Robert Costello, Donald Trump released his former chief strategist from all claims of executive privilege.
This letter frees up Bannon to testify before the Committee.
“If you reach an agreement on a time and place for your testimony, I will waive executive privilege for you, which will allow for you to testify truthfully and fairly as per the request of the Unselect Committee of political Thugs and Hacks,” Trump wrote.
Costello then released a letter explaining that Bannon was now willing to testify in public before the January 6 Select Committee.
“Mr. Bannon was obligated to honor the President’s invocation (of executive privilege), unless and until, either your Committee reached a constitutionally required accommodation with President Trump as to the invocation of executive privilege or your Committee obtained a ruling from the Federal District Court that the invocation of executive privilege was improper or did not apply to the particular question or document sought,” Costello wrote in his letter to the Committee. “While Mr. Bannon has been steadfast in his convictions, circumstances have now changed.”
Costello added that President Trump released Bannon from his claim of executive privilege due to the fact that his public testimony was in the vital interest of the country.
“President Trump has decided that it would be in the best interests of the American people to waive executive privilege for Stephen K. Bannon, to allow Mr. Bannon to comply with the subpoena issued by your Committee. Mr. Bannon is willing to, and indeed prefers, to testify at your public hearing,” Costello added.
Bannon testifying publicly before the Committee would present a new and different dynamic to hearings which have so far resembled a show trial out of Joe Stalin’s Russia.
Steve Bannon is a defiant Trump supporter who has no interest in playing into the Democrat Party and corporate-controlled media’s narrative about the end of Trump’s Presidency or what happened on January 6.
Bannon’s testimony would be the first time an adversarial witness poked holes in the story the Committee was trying to tell.
And that is why Donald Trump wants Steve Bannon to testify.
