Dr. Anthony Fauci’s disastrous strategy to combat the coronavirus is coming under harsh scrutiny.
Many Americans are hoping President Trump fires Dr. Fauci.
But now Dr. Fauci just said the one thing that will make Donald Trump flip out.
The White House curtailed Dr. Fauci’s TV interviews because Dr. Fauci would engage in doom and gloom hyperbole and go out of his way to contradict the President and make him look bad.
In recent days, the administration eased up on those restrictions and immediately regretted letting Dr. Fauci go on TV once more.
During an interview on Friday with PBS Newshour, Dr. Fauci praised New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s handling of the coronavirus outbreak.
“When you do it properly, you bring down those cases . . . We have done it in New York. New York got hit worse than any place in the world. And they did it correctly,” Dr. Fauci told PBS.
In fact, New York did not handle the coronavirus outbreak well at all.
Governor Cuomo was still downplaying the virus’s risk to New York in early March.
And worst of all, Governor Cuomo signed a late-March executive order mandating nursing homes take in coronavirus patients.
This disastrous decision turned nursing homes around the states into dangerous hotbeds as the elderly patients – the most vulnerable population – were trapped in facilities that were powder kegs waiting to explode with infection.
In fact over 6,000 New Yorkers – and this official count is most likely underreporting deaths – died in nursing homes after critics contend Cuomo signed their death warrant with his order.
New York’s death toll overall would be the sixth highest in the world if New York was its own country.
There is no evidence New York “did it correctly” and, in fact, the record suggests New York’s management of the pandemic was among the worst.
