Drew Carey says that he will die hosting The Price is Right

The Price is Right has been running continuously on TV since 1972,on its way to becoming the longest-running network series in American TV history.

Contestants celebrate when they hear their name called and the announcer says the show’s famous catchphrase, “Come on down.”

Host Bob Barker led the show from its start in 1972 until his retirement in 2007.

Comedian Drew Carey – best known for the ABC sitcom The Drew Carey Show – has been handling hosting duties for the beloved game show ever since.

He told Entertainment Tonight that he doesn’t want to stop hosting The Price is Right anytime soon.

“I want to die on stage with a microphone in my hand,” Carey said.

Barker died in August 2023 after battling Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 99.

“I think Bob made a mistake by retiring,” Carey said. “I’m not gonna make that same mistake. As long as my heart is ticking, and they want me to be on the show, I think I’m gonna do The Price is Right. I just love it.”

“I think I was made for it,” Carey added.

Drew Carey gives his advice to Ryan Seacrest on taking over Wheel of Fortune

Carey had to fill the big shoes that were left behind when Bob Barker stepped down as host of The Price is Right in 2007.

Now American Idol host Ryan Seacrest is stepping in to take over for legendary Pat Sajak as the host of Wheel of Fortune next season.

Entertainment Tonight asked Carey if he had any advice about replacing a legend for Seacrest.

“Do I have any advice for billionaire Ryan Seacrest?” Carey asked with a laugh. “Who hosts everything all the time? No.”

Seacrest is going to begin taping episodes this summer for the next season of Wheel, which debuts this fall.

“Bro, I think you got it,” Carey said. “I think you know what to do. I think you know how to host things. Don’t worry about it. You’re going to be fine.”

Carey admitted that he was hesitant to replace Barker on The Price is Right and initially turned down the job.

“If you think I’m going to sit at The Price Is Right so everybody can take potshots at me, forget it,” Carey told CBS News at the time.

But he discussed taking over his hosting duties with his friends and family before agreeing to step in for the iconic Barker.

One part of Barker’s legacy with the show still lives on with him.

“Have your pets spayed or neutered,” Carey says at the show’s sign-off as a nod to Barker, a noted animal lover.

“It’s a tradition,” Carey told CBS News in 2007. “It’s been here all this time. I don’t want to get rid of that.”

Fans of The Price is Right can count on seeing Drew Carey for years to come.
