Donald Trump’s promise to build a border wall was his signature campaign proposal.
But establishment Republicans, as well as Democrats, have fought tooth-and-nail to stop its construction.
Appearing on Laura Ingraham’s radio show, Sessions declared that the wall is going up.
Breitbart reports:
“The border wall is going up, said Sessions. Although some sections of the border are too rough to build a wall, the government will build “a substantial barrier through large portions… [because] you need to do that,” he said.
The wall will be backed up by border officers and justice department judges, he said. “We’ll have 50 new judges on the border in the next few weeks, and we’ll add 75 more next year.”
“I am really impressed with [DHS] Secretary [John] Kelly,” he said. His agency has “aggressively pursued the president’s agenda,” he said.”
But the wall was just one portion of Trump’s strategy to secure the border and crackdown on illegal immigration.
He signed executive orders that ended catch-and-release and allowed ICE and the Department of Homeland Security to enforce immigration law.
Since Trump took office, illegal border crossings are down 67 percent.
And the credit is due to Trump’s tough rhetoric and policies.
Newsmax reports:
“Arrests of people caught trying to sneak into the United States across the Mexican border plummeted in March to the lowest monthly figure in more than 17 years, the head of the Department of Homeland Security reported.
That’s a likely sign that fewer immigrants are trying to make the trek into the United States.
Secretary John Kelly said the steep decline in arrests is “no accident” and credited President Donald Trump’s approach to illegal immigration.
Kelly reported the figures in written testimony submitted to a Senate committee ahead of an appearance Wednesday. The Associated Press obtained a copy of his testimony.”
Trump keeping his promises on illegal immigration and the border has been key to maintaining the loyalty of his supporters.
The wall was his most famous campaign proposal so supporters and pundits are keeping an eye out to see if he will fulfill his pledge.
Jeff Sessions word that the wall will be built is a good start.
