Dr. Anthony Fauci misled the public from the get-go about the origins of the pandemic.
At the start of the pandemic, he went about dismissing the theory that the virus leaked from a lab in Wuhan, China.
Even after the Department of Energy and FBI recently concluded that the virus most likely escaped from a Chinese lab, Fauci is still trying to dismiss the theory.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) tore into Fauci about his dismissal of the lab leak theory during a hearing of the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic.
“He was trying to cover his backside, and everybody knows it,” Jordan. “And that’s the part that ticks us off.”
Fauci was funneling money to the Wuhan Institute of Virology for risky gain-of-function research that genetically-altered viruses to make them more deadly for scientists to study.
Shutting down the lab leak theory prevented him from being connected to the research that could have been behind the pandemic.
“This is the highest paid guy in our government getting all kinds of money to tell us things that were not accurate,” Jordan continued. “We now know U.S. tax dollars went to a lab in China, a lab that was not up to code, a lab that was doing gain-of-function research, and that’s where this thing most definitely came from.”
According to Jordan, Fauci used federal money to flip leading scientists on the lab leak theory during the start of the pandemic.
Dr. Kristian Andersen of the Scripps Institute and Dr. Robert Garry of Tulane University both expressed concern over the possibility that the virus could have escaped from a lab in Wuhan, China in January 2020.
Without any new evidence, the pair of scientists changed their minds and rejected the lab leak theory.
“There’s 9 million reasons why they changed their mind,” Jordan said.
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), which was led by Fauci before his retirement from government last December, sent a grant worth nearly $9 million to Dr. Andersen’s lab at the Scripps Research Institute shortly after he expressed concern about a lab leak.
Other top scientists changed their tunes and later received millions in government funding for their projects.
“So, three days after they say it came from a lab, they change their position, and the only intervening event is a conference call with Dr. Fauci and Dr. [Francis] Collins . . . And then three months later — shazam! They get $9 million bucks from Dr. Fauci. Now isn’t that something?” Jordan exclaimed.
