Democrats have the barest majority in both houses of Congress.
That all may be about to change.
And Joe Biden made one announcement that will lead to Chuck Schumer getting fired.
On the third anniversary of the tragedy in Parkland, Florida, Joe Biden saw fit to release a statement announcing his administration’s intention to gut the Second Amendment by banning guns, making it easier for Americans to sue gun manufacturers, and to create a national gun registration database.
Read the White House’s statement here:
“This Administration will not wait for the next mass shooting to heed that call. We will take action to end our epidemic of gun violence and make our schools and communities safer. Today, I am calling on Congress to enact common sense gun law reforms, including requiring background checks on all gun sales, banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and eliminating immunity for gun manufacturers who knowingly put weapons of war on our streets. We owe it to all those we’ve lost and to all those left behind to grieve to make a change. The time to act is now.”
Democrats have incumbent Senators running for re-election in pro-gun states like New Hampshire, Arizona, and Georgia.
With Republicans needing to win a net gain of just one Senate seat in 2022, the majority is very much in play.
Pushing gun control has proven to be political poison for Democrats in the past.
After Bill Clinton’s 1994 assault weapons ban and Barack Obama’s failed 2013 push for a gun registration database, Democrats suffered historic wipeouts in the ensuing midterm elections.
Joe Biden is inviting disaster with this call to action on banning guns.
And if history is any guide, it could play a pivotal role in the American people firing Chuck Schumer as Senate Majority Leader.
