Joe Biden finally held his first press conference.
It was every bit of the train wreck many expected.
But the biggest news came when Joe Biden said the one word that drastically changed Kamala Harris’ future plans.
Joe Biden took 10 questions from a pre-selected list of friendly supporters.
Biden appeared to have the questions in advance as he read answers from a notebook and had a cheat sheet with him listing facts, figures, and talking points.
At one point Biden was asked if he planned to run for re-election in 2024, when he would be 82 years old.
“The answer is yes,” Biden responded. “My plan is to run for reelection. That’s my expectation.”
Biden did leave himself an enormous amount of wiggle room by saying the decision would largely be determined by fate.
“Look, I don’t know where you guys come from, man . . . I am a great respecter of fate. I have never been able to plan for 3.5 years ahead for certain,” Biden added.
When Joe Biden selected Kamala Harris as his running mate, Biden had already told the public that he was just a transitional figure.
Everyone assumed that meant Biden would not seek a second term in 2024.
And while Biden may not have wanted to declare himself a lame duck right off the bat, it also may have thrown a roadblock in the way of Harris ascending to the Presidency.
Harris herself may have thought that there is no way Biden is running for re-election in 2024.
Based on Biden’s performance in this press conference it is almost impossible to imagine him running for President when he is 82 after three more years of cognitive decline while serving in the most stressful job in the world.
But now, at the very least, Kamala Harris will face years of doubt as to whether or not she will be the Democrat Party nominee in 2024.
