A federal judge in Washington, D.C. blocked the use of Title 42 by federal authorities at the border.
Title 42 is the public health order invoked by former President Donald Trump that gave federal officials the ability to quickly deport illegal aliens to protect the country from the pandemic.
Despite the lawlessness of the Biden regime, Title 42 is one of the few border security policies left in place that’s been used stop illegal immigration.
According to Customs and Border Protection data, the policy was used to expel 937,000 illegal aliens in 2021 and 983,000 illegal aliens in 2022.
If Title 42 expires on December 21, all hell could break loose on the southern border.
The number of illegal aliens crossing the border could potentially double to 18,000 and push the Border Patrol past the breaking point.
Now, a group of Democrat Senators are sounding the alarm on the lack of preparation from Homeland Security to handle the floodgates opening after Title 42 expires.
In a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Senators Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Jon Tester (D-MT), and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) say that the Biden regime isn’t ready to handle the expected surge of illegal aliens.
“Since the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued the Public Health Determination and terminated the Title 42 Order on April 1, 2022, we have expressed concern with DHS’ preparations for the end of Title 42, especially as the situation has deteriorated at times,” the Senators wrote.
Last spring, the Biden regime tried to let Title 42 expire.
However, the policy was kept in place after a lawsuit from Republican states.
“Record annual encounters have led to untenable situations. In Arizona, shelters have been forced well beyond capacity. This month, El Paso has seen over 700 migrants released directly onto city streets due to overcrowding. This is not safe, and creates a dangerous situation for migrants and communities,” the letter added.
The Democrat Senators noted that even Homeland Security is conceding that ending Title 42 will “significantly increase” the number of illegal aliens trying to make it into the country.
They questioned whether Homeland Security had the ability to process thousands of additional illegal aliens coming into the country each day.
When the Biden regime was set to let Title 42 expire last spring, officials went to the Defense Department for help with planning for the expected influx.
The expiration of Title 42 could be the biggest catastrophe of Joe Biden’s border crisis.
