Former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake is considered a rising political star.
Now she’s coming to a fork in the road about her political future.
And Kari Lake is on the verge of a 2024 decision that will leave Donald Trump jumping for joy.
Speculation is growing about former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake seeking another office in the 2024 Election.
Her name has been mentioned as being on the list of potential candidates to be former President Donald Trump’s running mate.
It appears that she has her sights set on throwing her hat in the ring for Arizona’s Senate race next year.
Lake announced that she would make a decision about running for Senate in the Grand Canyon State by the end of the year but it appears she already made it.
She’s expected to begin hiring staff and consultants with the expectation of officially entering the race around October.
The Arizona Senate race is expected to be a knock-down, drag-fight in one of the most important battleground states in the country.
Incumbent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) left the Democrat Party to become an independent and hasn’t officially announced her reelection plans.
Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) is the leading Democrat candidate who could set up a rare three-way race with Lake and Sinema.
The potential for Gallego and Sinema to split the Democrat vote could leave the door wide open for Lake.
That would give Trump another strong ally in the Senate if he can return to the White House.
Democrats are clinging to a razor-thin 51-49 Senate majority heading into 2024 and Arizona could determine which party is in control.
An Arizona GOP consultant said that the state is going to be a top priority for both parties after its down-to-the-wire finish in the 2020 Presidential Election.
“Arizona is going to be the focal point again,” the consultant told The Hill. “I know that everybody talks about Ohio, West Virginia and Montana as the keys for Republicans to take back the Senate. But Arizona is very deep in that mix.”
Democrats are playing defense for Senate seats in Ohio, West Virginia, and Montana in 2024, all states that Trump cruised to victory in during the 2020 Election.
Lake could face a crowded field of challengers in the GOP Primary but she would start off as the favorite according to Republican strategist Brian Darling.
“We’re seeing with Donald Trump that, even though he’s a very divisive candidate with independents, he’s loved by Republicans,” Darling said. “Same with Kari Lake. I don’t think there’s any chance she loses the nomination if she runs.”
He said that it was almost certain that Lake was going to jump into the Senate race and run a hard-hitting campaign.
“Kari Lake clearly is a candidate who’s got elbows out and some rough edges, and she will campaign much like Donald Trump,” Darling added. “She will not hold back and will run a very, very aggressive campaign.”
Kari Lake could shake up the political world once again by running for Arizona’s Senate seat.
