Kevin Costner revealed this was the most crushing moment of his life

Kevin Costner’s been one of the biggest names in Hollywood since the 1980s.

But it hasn’t all been sunshine and rainbows.

And Kevin Costner revealed this was the most crushing moment of his life.

Costner opens up on his divorce

In an appearance on CBS Mornings to promote his new film, Horizon: An American Saga, Costner dished for the first time on his divorce from his wife of 18 years, Christine Baumgartner.

“That’s a crushing moment,” Costner admitted.

Costner said the end of marriage, which was finalized on May 1, “hurt,” but that he had to move forward for the sake of the three children he had with Baumgartner.

“It was powerful. It hurt. But I go forward. I have no choice. My children are looking at me, so I can’t wilt like a daisy. I have to go forward. I have to continue to be who I am and keep a special eye on who they are,” Costner added.

Baumgartner cited irreconcilable differences and fought Costner over the prenuptial agreement she signed.

Costner said in such a situation there are no winners or losers.

“You know, when you have a life that long with somebody, there is no winner . . . and it’s this big, crazy thing called life and how it unravels so quickly,” Costner added.

“One minute you feel like you’re on top of the world, and then you realize how . . . vulnerable you are,” Costner continued.

But Costner had nothing but good things to say about Baumgartner and went out of his way to praise her parenting skills.

“She’s an incredible mom,” Costner concluded. “We will figure it out, and we’ll share. We’ve just got to kind of convalesce right now.”

Costner opens up on relationship with Jewel

Costner and Jewel were linked in the press ever since the two were photographed together on a trip to the Virgin Islands.

In an interview with Howard Stern, Costner tried to put the rumors the two were an item to bed.

“Jewel and I are friends,” Costner declared.

Costner claimed the two were “friends” and have never been on a date.

“We’ve never gone out, ever,” Costner emphasized.

“I don’t want these rumors to ruin our friendship because that’s what we have,” Costner told Stern, adding, “She’s special. I mean she’s beautiful.”

Costner said the trip to the Virgin Islands was for her Inspiring Children Foundation and that eight other people were in the group that went.

“I got on the plane with nine people, Jewel was one of them,” Costner revealed.

Costner recalled that this wasn’t some celebrity jaunt and that most people they traveled with were just regular folks.

“Emma Watson was on there, and seven other people who weren’t celebrities. We were the only three celebrities on the island, for three days down there. And then we fly back. [Jewel] was just somebody I had tremendous conversations with, along with Emma,” Costner recounted.

Costner doubled down on the fact that the two weren’t a couple and told Stern that he didn’t want the press attention to ruin their friendship.

“I don’t want the press to ruin this for us. I’ve had conversations with her, text-wise, and she’s so smart,” Costner added.

“She’s been through a lot herself. We have a friendship. We don’t have a romance, Costner concluded.
