Mike Pence’s time as Donald Trump’s loyal Vice President may be coming to an end.
Even Pence knows what’s about to happen is bad news.
Mike Pence is looking to leave the country after doing one thing Trump is going to hate.
On January 6, both houses of Congress meet for a joint session to certify the Electoral College results.
Vice President Mike Pence will preside over the ceremony, and if no Republican Senator objects, Vice President Pence will make it official that Joe Biden won the Presidency.
In the event that happens, Pence is planning to leave the country hours later on a foreign trip.
But Pence could dodge their ire by leaving Washington immediately for the Middle East and Europe. According to three U.S. officials familiar with the planning, the vice president is eyeing a foreign trip that would take him over-seas for nearly a week, starting on Jan. 6.
Though Pence aides declined to confirm details of the trip, which remains tentative, a U.S. government document seen by POLITICO shows the vice president is due to travel to Bahrain, Israel and Poland, with the possibility of more stops being added. A pre-advance team of Pence aides and other U.S. officials left earlier this week to visit the planned stops in preparation for the multi-country tour, which would be Pence’s first trip abroad since last January, when he traveled to Rome and Jerusalem on a whirlwind two-day sojourn.
If Pence has to make it official that Trump lost, he wants to be out of sight as quickly as possible so the President and his supporters don’t believe Pence played a role in a Republican Party surrender on contesting the 2020 election the grounds of widespread voter fraud.
If Vice President Pence is planning his own 2024 Presidential campaign, he does not want the President’s supporters to see him as the man that put the final nail in Trump’s coffin.
So Pence is planning to get out of the country as quick as possible for foreign travel.
