During the coronavirus pandemic Donald Trump is going to need all the help he can get.
The President needs all facets of government pulling in one direction if America hopes to defeat the coronavirus.
And now one of Trump’s top allies submitted a letter of resignation that signaled this big change.
On March 6, Donald Trump sent out a tweet announcing his intention to name Freedom Caucus Chairman North Carolina Congressman Mark Meadows as his new chief of staff replacing Mick Mulvaney.
“I want to thank acting chief Mick Mulvaney for having served the Administration so well. He will become the United States Special Envoy for Northern Ireland. Thank you,” the President wrote.
But the situation remained in flux because for weeks Meadows was still a member of Congress even though Meadows attended White House meetings and worked to put his team in place.
Meadows finally provided clarity to the situation when he submitted his letter of resignation to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Monday.
“Dear Madam Speaker, I write today to inform you that I will resign from the House of Representatives, effective 5:00pm Monday, March 30. Serving the people of North Carolina’s eleventh congressional district for these last seven years has been the honor of my life. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity. Thank you, and God bless you all in the days ahead,” Meadows resignation letter read.
In a statement, Meadows announced how proud he was to join the Trump administration.
“This was a decision I struggled with greatly,” Meadows wrote. “These last 8 years, I have been so blessed to serve the people of NC-11 and help give a voice to millions of Americans who feel Washington, D.C. has forgotten them.”
With the coronavirus outbreak raging and the 2020 election fast approaching it’s more vital than ever that Donald Trump has a chief staff in place whose political instincts and competence the President and the rest of the nation can trust.
Trump supporters believe the President has that man in place with Meadows.
