The conservative base is in revolt.
Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell betrayed their voters when they agreed to a $1.3 trillion spending bill.
But things got even worse when Ryan was caught in this huge lie.
Ryan tried to sell the deal as a win for President Trump.
He boasted that the bill included a $1.6 billion down payment on Trump’s border wall.
“But in the end, tens of billions of dollars in new spending, all of which will increase the budget deficit, was able to buy enough support from each side. Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) declared passage of the omnibus package was vital for “rebuilding” the Pentagon, which Republicans and President Donald Trump claim was neglected during the Obama era. Ryan has been pushing the military funding issue hard throughout the budget fight.
“This bill starts construction on the wall. It turns the Gateway decision over to the Trump administration. It funds our war on opioids. It invests in infrastructure. It funds school safety and mental health,” Ryan said at a press conference on Thursday. “But what this bill is ultimately about—what we fought for for so long—is finally giving our military the tools and the resources it needs to do the job.”
But that was fake news.
The real amount was less than half that.
And it merely provided funding for fencing that was authorized under previous legislation.
None of the money can be used to build the 30 foot high, concrete prototypes Trump visited last week.
The legislation that Ryan rammed through the House was a typical swamp sell out.
It then went on to the Senate where Mitch McConnell teamed up with Chuck Schumer to line up enough votes among establishment senators in both parties to guarantee passage.
Do you think Donald Trump should veto this legislation?
