Joe Biden opened the southern border and created a crisis.
The border is a big driver of Biden’s sinking approval numbers and re-election prospects.
And Ron DeSantis has one plan to secure the border that will embarrass Joe Biden.
At a press event in Miami a reporter asked DeSantis if as President he would support building the border wall and deploying the U.S. military to take on the Mexican drug cartels.
“Yes and yes,” DeSantis stated.
DeSantis explained that cartels knew the gaps in border surveillance and that a wall was necessary to prevent illegal aliens from entering the country.
“I’ve said publicly, I’ve always supported the wall just because it’s such a big border. You can have border protection. You will never be able to have enough,” DeSantis added. “Cartels will direct people where there’s surveillance, so you have to have that. I think it’s important.”
DeSantis pointed to his experience in Florida as evidence he could get the wall built citing how his administration rebuilt the Pine Island Bridge within three days after Hurricane Ian devastated the state.
“I got my guys together and I said, ‘Listen, we’re going to take this over, no bureaucracy, no red tape, no excuses.’ . . . Instead of six months we did Pine Island in three days, and instead of six months we did Sanibel in three weeks,” DeSantis continued.
DeSantis said he would deploy the military to disrupt the cartel’s ability to traffic deadly fentanyl into the country.
“It’s totally corrupt, but they are running people into our country and they are running massive amounts of fentanyl into our country,” DeSantis concluded. “It’s killing tens of thousands of Americans. It’s killing people in Florida communities.”
In the last year numbers are available, more than 70,000 Americans overdosed on fentanyl in 2021.
The Biden administration is doing nothing to secure the border and is even trying to create more magnets to attract illegal aliens into the country.
When Donald Trump was President, reports that Trump wanted to bomb the Mexican drug cartels to stop fentanyl from getting into the country was treated like a massive scandal.
But in a show of just how drastically Donald Trump reshaped the Republican Party it is now an accepted mainstream position that the government should use military assets to destroy the cartel’s drug trafficking operation.
