Ron DeSantis lowered the boom on teachers unions with this epic takedown

Ron DeSantis has been at war with left-wing teachers unions since the pandemic.

Now he’s ready to take off the gloves in his fight for education.

And Ron DeSantis lowered the boom on teachers unions with this epic takedown.

Ron DeSantis announces pay increase for teachers

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has turned the Sunshine State into the Education State.

U.S. News & World Report ranked Florida the number one state in the country for education.

DeSantis’ effort to remove woke indoctrination from the classroom and stand up for parental rights has delivered for Florida families.

He signed the state’s budget for the Fiscal Year 2024-2025, which included more than $200 million to increase teacher pay.

“It’s going to be a strong budget for education,” DeSantis said at a press conference in Hialeah. “This is the most we’ve ever done in Florida history in terms of a teacher categorical. We’re proud that we’re able to do that.”

He noted that more than $4 billion had been spent under his administration boosting teacher pay since 2019.

“We now have the average minimum teacher salary over $48,000,” DeSantis explained. “So that’s up from about $39,000 five years ago.”

Ron DeSantis wants money going to teachers, not to Union Bosses

The Florida Governor has been at war with teachers unions in his state after they led the charge to keep schools closed during the pandemic against all scientific evidence.

DeSantis signed a paycheck protection bill for teachers into law last year that ended the scam of the state acting as a collection agency for teachers unions by automatically deducting union dues from paychecks.

The bill also required that teachers unions be decertified if fewer than 60% of members don’t pay dues.

That keeps teachers from being forced to be represented by an organization that has no support.

DeSantis took a shot at the United Teachers of Dade – the largest teachers union in the state.

“I know there’s a decertification battle here in Miami-Dade and all I can say is that old union in Miami-Dade fought tooth and nail to keep kids locked out of school,” DeSantis said. “They did not want kids in person during Covid.”

United Teachers of Dade is fighting to avoid being decertified.

“You don’t need them to raise pay,” DeSantis explained. “We’re raising pay in spite of those unions, not because of them.”

Teachers unions falsely claim that they’re the only group that can get teacher pay increased.

DeSantis pointed out that the Union Boss leading the Florida Education Association makes almost $400,000.

He said that the money in the state’s new budget can only go toward teacher pay increases, not in lining the pockets of the union.

“I want [the money] to go to teachers, I don’t want it going to the teacher unions,” DeSantis said.

The teachers unions are furious at him over losing their government-granted special privileges with the paycheck protection bill.

“[That bill] ushered in a new era of accountability for wayward…school unions…We’re not going to facilitate those deductions,” DeSantis said. “It’s a recognition that these school unions have become extra partisan [and try to] impose left-wing ideology.”

Ron DeSantis is cutting out one of the worst elements of the educational bureaucracy by waging war on teachers unions and showing other Republican Governors the path forward.
