In February, Rush Limbaugh announced doctors diagnosed him with advanced stage lung cancer.
For months, listeners wondered how Limbaugh’s battle against the disease was proceeding.
And now Rush Limbaugh let his audience in on this scary secret about his health.
Rush Limbaugh provides occasional updates on his battle with cancer.
On Monday Limbaugh provided a progress report that made it clear just how serious his situation was.
Limbaugh used a baseball analogy to explain that he was in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs after his first two treatment attempts were “failures” and “nearly killed him.”
“The first two attempts to deal with the cancer failed. One was a targeted therapy of clinical trial drugs, which worked but nearly killed me in the process. And so we had to get off of those. But that at-bat showed me I could hit the pitch. I wasn’t gonna strike out. I was at least able to make contact. We had some hope that there would be a remedy,” Limbaugh stated.
But while Limbaugh said the first two treatments were failures one showed promise and that Limbaugh now was in a position to force “extra innings” and extend his fight with lung cancer.
“I am currently on second base hoping to slide into third and eventually make it all the way home. We’re in the bottom of the ninth. If I get all the way home we get extra innings. And that’s what we’re shooting for here. Another reason why I chose baseball — football and basketball have a clock and they end. Baseball doesn’t. Baseball goes as long as the game is tied. Right now I am tied. I need to round the bases and score. I need, however it happens, I need to either steal third, I need to steal home. The guy hitting behind me needs to come up with something,” Limbaugh added.
Doctors diagnosed Limbaugh with advanced stage lung cancer earlier this year.
And while the situation is dire, Limbaugh refuses to accept it as a death sentence.
The host thanked his audience for their prayers and did note that an optimistic mindset was an important aspect of this fight.
