Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez spent years telling you to defund the police – and last Sunday she laughed about it.
Now Stephen Miller is making sure every American sees what that laugh actually means.
And Miller reminded Americans of something that AOC is never going to live down.
AOC Laughed and Miller Named the People She Was Laughing At
AOC was on ABC's This Week when anchor Jonathan Karl pressed her about Wisconsin Democrat gubernatorial candidate Francesca Hong – a progressive who had previously called for police abolition and canceling Thanksgiving.
AOC's response?
She chuckled.
She quoted a New York City councilman who told her "Woke One was crazy" – and she laughed it off like it was a fun little inside joke between Democrats who've moved on from their most radical years.
Miller watched that clip on Fox News Wednesday night – and he went to war.
"We're all going to have a good laugh about that?" he said on The Will Cain Show. "Sorry, your husband was murdered. Sorry, your mom was killed. Sorry, your loved ones are six feet under the ground now. We're going to have a good laugh about that. It's sickening. It's disgusting."
These Aren't Abstract Numbers – These Are AOC's Own Constituents
AOC championed defunding the police in her own backyard – and her own constituents paid for it in blood.
After the NYPD was defunded by $1.5 billion in 2020, major crimes in AOC's district shot up 57% compared to 2020 levels, according to analysis by former NYPD Inspector Paul Mauro.
Compared to the prior year alone, major felonies like murder, rape, and robbery climbed 44%.
Her own constituents – the working-class people of the Bronx and Queens she claims to represent – were getting robbed at rates climbing 71% and 84% in precincts inside her district.
And when a massive police crackdown was finally deployed in one Queens neighborhood under Mayor Eric Adams, crime fell 25% almost immediately.
More policing. Less crime.
That's the entire argument Miller was making – and the numbers back him up.
While AOC Was Laughing, Trump Was Actually Fixing It
Here's the contrast Democrats don't want you to see.
One year ago this week, President Trump declared a crime emergency in Washington, D.C. – a city Democrats had run into the ground for decades – and unleashed the Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force.
The results are not debatable.
Homicides down 31%. Vehicle thefts down 53%. Overall crime down 20%.
More than 16,000 arrests. Nearly 2,000 illegal firearms pulled off the streets. Thirty-five homicide suspects locked up.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro put it plainly: prosecutions have risen 67% since she took office, with murderers, traffickers, and career criminals cleared out of neighborhoods they had terrorized for years.
Trump didn't laugh at crime victims.
He arrested the people creating them.
That's the contrast Miller was drawing – and he's right to draw it.
AOC wants credit for "moving past" the defund era without ever answering for what it cost – she wants to call it a phase, "rhetoric of the time," as if the people murdered in her district during that experiment don't count as a permanent consequence of temporary insanity.
Miller isn't letting her walk away from it.
The victims she laughed about – the husbands, the mothers, the loved ones six feet under – those people had names, and they lived in the communities she was elected to protect.
