Ted Cruz Called Anthony Fauci America’s Most Damaging Bureaucrat After He Pleaded the Fifth 111 Times

Anthony Fauci spent decades telling Americans to trust the science.

On Wednesday, he spent three hours refusing to answer a single question about it.

Ted Cruz watched 111 Fifth Amendment invocations and just delivered the harshest verdict of Fauci's career.

The Man Who Silenced a Nation Would Not Say a Word

It started the moment Rand Paul's committee came to order.

Fauci read a brief opening statement accusing Paul of an "unhinged obsession" with prosecuting him.

Then he stopped talking entirely.

For three hours, senators asked him about the lab leak cover-up, the school shutdowns, the masks, the lockdowns – and every single time, Fauci repeated one 24-word sentence: "Under the advice of my attorneys, I will invoke my right under the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution to refrain from answering your questions."

One hundred and eleven times.

Ron Johnson captured it best: "I think it would be almost impossible for you to answer the questions truthfully without really demonstrating what you did."

Josh Hawley tried a different angle.

He asked Fauci what color tie he was wearing.

Fauci pleaded the Fifth.

That moment tells you everything.

The Diary Biden Could Not Erase

The reason Fauci refused to speak is sitting in black and white in his own handwriting.

On March 15, 2020 – a date he marked in his diary with "BIG DAY!" in red letters – Fauci recorded that he called Bill de Blasio and personally convinced the New York City mayor to close the city's schools.

The same diary entry notes a conversation with Ann O'Leary, chief of staff to California Governor Gavin Newsom, who told Fauci the Governor had decided to shut down California schools based on Fauci's recent television appearances.

Fauci bragged about closing the schools of two states in his own diary.

Then he went on television and said – repeatedly – "I did not close the schools."

He testified before the House Oversight Committee in January 2024 and said it again: "I did not close the schools."

His diary was sitting in a drawer the whole time.

The lab leak entries are just as damning.

On January 31, 2020, Fauci privately recorded that scientists had raised the possibility of deliberate laboratory insertion of the virus and agreed it warranted further expert review.

He went on national television and said the opposite.

He let the American public believe anyone questioning the wet market origin was peddling a conspiracy theory – while his own diary confirmed he knew otherwise from the start.

Cruz Names the Charge: Contempt, Perjury, and Jail

Ted Cruz did not mince words after watching Fauci stonewall the committee.

"He's been the most damaging bureaucrat in the history of America," Cruz told Fox News Digital.

Cruz called for contempt charges, perjury prosecution, and jail time – and he laid out exactly why.

"In his diary, he wrote early on that it was clear that the COVID virus did not come from the wet market in Wuhan, and then he turned around and said exactly the opposite thing on national television," Cruz added.

On the school shutdowns: "The school shutdowns, which Fauci bragged that he was responsible for, may well be the single most destructive public policy step we've seen in decades."

Children who lost two years of schooling during their formative years will carry that learning loss for the rest of their lives.

Rand Paul announced a contempt vote for next week and made the legal case clear: Biden's preemptive pardon – signed 18 months ago, covering federal offenses from 2014 onward – actually eliminates Fauci's legal justification for pleading the Fifth.

The Fifth Amendment protects against self-incrimination.

A pardon removes criminal liability.

Remove criminal liability and the Fifth Amendment doesn't attach.

Fauci used the one legal shield that proves he no longer needs a legal shield.

Biden tried to protect Fauci on his way out the door.

He may have handed Republicans the exact leverage they needed to force Fauci to talk – or watch him go to jail for contempt instead.

America Already Knew the Answer

This hearing did not reveal anything new about Anthony Fauci.

It confirmed everything Americans suspected while they were locked in their houses, watching their kids fall behind in school, losing their businesses, and being told by a government doctor collecting magazine covers that they had to trust him.

And when finally forced under oath to answer for it – with a pardon in his pocket that legally removed any risk of prosecution – he refused to say a single word.

Ted Cruz is right.

When historians look back at this era, they will ask what collective madness led America to hand this man that much power over that many lives.

The diary already answered the question.

Fauci just answered it again by refusing to answer anything.
