Tragedy struck when Mexican drug cartels kidnapped four American citizens in the border city of Matamoros, Mexico.
Two of the Americans were murdered by cartel thugs before the other pair made it back across the border into Texas.
Under President Joe Biden, the cartels are becoming increasingly emboldened by his reckless open border agenda.
The cartels are smuggling a flood of illegal aliens and deadly drugs, like fentanyl, across the wide-open southern border.
Meanwhile, the Biden regime is sitting idly by while these criminal enterprises are running wild.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) slammed Biden for empowering the cartels after the murder of two American citizens.
During an appearance on Fox News, Cruz said that the absence of “responsible Presidential leadership” contributed to the tragedy.
“Joe Biden created the chaos at the border. Joe Biden stopped building the wall. He reinstated Catch and Release,” Cruz explained. “He pulled out of Remain in Mexico and what Joe Biden has done is he’s turned these vicious narco-terrorists into multi-billionaires.”
Profits from the cartels’ human smuggling operations have surpassed their lucrative drug trafficking business with border security dismantled.
Cruz pointed to a report from The New York Times that found the cartels went from making $500 million from human smuggling in 2018 to $13 billion a year in 2022, a jump of 2,500%.
Under Biden the cartels are raking in the kind of money usually reserved for publicly traded companies.
“Joe Biden becoming President is the best thing that ever happened to the Mexican drug cartels,” Cruz said. “Last year, we had the highest number of drug overdoses in the history of our country, over 100,000 drug overdoses in the United States, the majority of which came from Chinese fentanyl flooding across this border.”
The cartels are capitalizing on the open border to flood the country with the lethal synthetic opioid, fentanyl.
Fentanyl is now the leading cause of death for Americans 18-45.
“Joe Biden and the Democrats are responsible for turning these vicious murderers into multibillionaires,” Cruz continued. “We need to bankrupt them, we need to put them out of business and the people responsible for these murders need to be brought to justice!”
The cartels brazenly murdered American citizens because they didn’t fear a response from the Biden regime.
The Gulf Cartels handed over five suspects involved in the murders but it appears an overwhelming response from Biden isn’t in the cards.
While Republicans are pushing for an aggressive crackdown on cartels after the tragedy, Biden seems content to continue with his current strategy of dealing with them.
