Democrats are absorbing a series of political setbacks as scandals engulf some of their biggest names.
Now matters are worse.
And that’s because the smoking gun that will ruin this Joe Biden ally just ended up in the paper.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is bombarded with new revelations on a daily basis about the sexual harassment claims against him as well as the cover up of the true number of nursing home deaths resulting from Coronavirus.
Cuomo faced calls for impeachment when the story leaked that his top aide Melissa DeRose admitted the Cuomo administration withheld the number of Coronavirus nursing home deaths out of fear the Department of Justice would use it as evidence in a criminal investigation.
Now The New York Times is reporting that last summer Cuomo’s aides allegedly rewrote a report prepared by state health officials that found 9,000 coronavirus deaths in nursing homes at a time when the Cuomo administration was claiming 6,000 nursing home coronavirus deaths.
The New York Times reports:
The number — more than 9,000 by that point in June — was not public, and the governor’s most senior aides wanted to keep it that way. They rewrote the report to take it out, according to interviews and documents reviewed by The New York Times.
The extraordinary intervention, which came just as Mr. Cuomo was starting to write a book on his pandemic achievements, was the earliest act yet known in what critics have called a months-long effort by the governor and his aides to obscure the full scope of nursing home deaths.
Cuomo thought he could ride out these scandals.
But as the bad news mounts, his poll numbers plummet.
A new Data Progress poll of New York voters found 57 percent wanted Cuomo to resign versus just 43 percent who think he should remain in power.
As the allegations mount and Cuomo’s poll numbers decline it will only embolden more Democrats to come out against him and demand he leave office.
