Tom Brady was blindsided when he got this surprising offer from New England’s new coach

The New England Patriots are in transition mode after former coach Bill Belichick’s departure.

Now they could be looking at bringing back a former legend to return to their past glory.

And Tom Brady was blindsided when he got this surprising offer from New England’s new coach.

Major transition underway for the New England Patriots

Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and quarterback Tom Brady led the team to six Super Bowl wins in 20 seasons together.

But the Patriots are in transition mode after the Brady-Belichick-led dynasty fell apart.

Brady departed for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the 2019 season where he won another Super Bowl before retiring.

And Belichick and the Patriots agreed to mutually part ways after last season.

For the first time since the 1999 season, a head coach other than Belichick will be on the sidelines for the team.

The Patriots hired former player Jerod Mayo – a linebacker who played under Belichick and with Brady – to be their next head coach.

Mayo has a major rebuilding project ahead after the Patriots won four games last season.

New Patriots’ coach reacts to rumors of a Tom Brady comeback

Brady appeared on the DeepCuts podcast with barber VicBlends, where he suggested that he was open to another comeback to professional football.

“I’m not opposed to it,” Brady said. “I don’t know if they are going to let me if I become an owner of an NFL team. I’m always going to be in good shape. I’ll always be able to throw the ball. So, to come in for a little bit, like [Michael Jordan] coming back, I don’t know if they would let me. But I wouldn’t be opposed to it.”

Brady is trying to get a minority ownership stake in the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Patriots drafted North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye with the third pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

But the possibility of the seven-time Super Bowl champion returning to football generated buzz in the Boston media.

Mayo was asked about the possibility of his former teammate rejoining the franchise that he led to so much success by local Boston sports talk radio station WEEI.

“I love Tom, and the door is always open if he wants to come in here and coach,” Mayo told WEEI.

But the new Patriots coach didn’t close the door on the possibility of Brady returning to the team.

“But as far as going on the field, I don’t know,” Mayo continued. “But if he comes here, once again, going back to the, ‘Hey, the best player will play,’ you’ve gotta come in here and compete, and he loves competition. I doubt he’s gonna be walking through these doors any time soon.”

Brady signed a 10-year, $375 million contract to become Fox Sports’ top NFL analyst in the broadcast booth this fall.

The 46-year-old defied age by playing quarterback at a high level until retirement after the 2022 season.

In the past, Brady talked about trying to play in the NFL until he was 50.

He will always be associated with the New England Patriots, but it seems unlikely he’ll ever take the field for the team again.
