Host Don Lemon was pulled off his longtime evening show and reassigned to CNN’s new morning program.
But after former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley announced her Presidential campaign, Lemon stepped in it with a vicious sexist attack against her.
Haley launched her campaign by saying the country needed a new generation of leadership and demanding that politicians over the age of 75 be required to take cognitive tests.
“This whole talk about age makes me uncomfortable. I think it’s the wrong road to go down. She says people, you know, politicians or something are not in their prime,” Lemon said on CNN’s morning program. “Nikki Haley isn’t in her prime, sorry. A woman is considered to be in their prime in 20s and 30s and maybe 40s.”
A stunned co-host Poppy Harlow said, “What are you talking about, wait . . . prime for what?”
“Don’t shoot the messenger, I’m just saying Google what the facts are — Google it, everyone at home, when is a woman in her prime,” Lemon said. “And I’m just saying Nikki Haley should be careful about saying that politicians are not in their prime and they need to be in their prime when they serve.”
Lemon’s attack even crossed the line at CNN who pulled him from their morning show for several days.
He attacked Haley to deflect from President Joe Biden’s mental acuity from being questioned with talk of a cognitive test.
Former South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy fired back at Lemon after he attacked Nikki Haley.
During an appearance on Fox & Friends Weekend, he said that Lemon’s remarks were “one of the most profoundly stupid things that I have ever heard anyone say.”
“Ketanji Brown Jackson is older than Nikki Haley,” Gowdy said. “He didn’t say a word about her. Kamala Harris is older than Nikki Haley.”
Lemon came to then Biden Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson’s defense during her confirmation hearing, referring to her GOP critics as ignorant of the law.
“It’s gender bias, it’s political bias, it’s also stupid,” Gowdy continued. “The saving grace is that he said it on CNN’s morning show, which means nobody heard it.”
Gowdy pointed out the painful truth about the current state of CNN.
Lemon’s attack on Haley is the most attention the floundering network has received in months.
CNN’s ratings have collapsed to historic lows as the network struggles to compete with late night infomercials.
