Trey Gowdy was surprised to discover this secret about the Capitol from Franklin Graham

Reverend Franklin Graham is continuing the work of his father, the late evangelist Billy Graham.

Now he’s sharing a new detail about his trip into Washington, D.C.’s “Swamp.”

And Trey Gowdy was surprised to discover this secret about the Capitol from Franklin Graham.

Billy Graham is commemorated with a new statue in the Capitol Building

The late Billy Graham was one of the most influential evangelists the world has ever known.

He spread the Gospel to more than 200 million people on six continents during his lifetime.

And he served as a pastor to 12 Presidents.

Now the late evangelist has been memorialized with a statue in the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., with a statue in the National Statuary Hall collection.

Every state gets to place two statues in the hall of deceased people of historical significance to the state.

North Carolina added Graham to this place of honor.

The Reverend Franklin Graham, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA), North Carolina’s Congressional Delegation, and others attended the unveiling of Billy Graham’s statue.

“I am nervous today, can I be honest with you? Because Billy Graham is such a towering figure in my life. As he is in all of our lives,” Johnson said at the ceremony. “And such a singular figure, the leading ambassador for the Kingdom of our lifetimes.”

Franklin Graham reveals some new details about Billy Graham’s statue

Franklin Graham discussed the new statue of his father with Fox News host Trey Gowdy on his show Sunday Night in America.

He told Gowdy some details about the Billy Graham statue that weren’t apparent at first glance.

Gowdy was curious how the late evangelist – who was known for his humility – would have reacted to having a statue in the Capitol Building.

“Trey, he’d be a little uncomfortable, to be honest with you,” Graham replied. “Because he would not the attention to be drawn to him. He would want the attention to go to the One that my father served. and that was the Lord Jesus Christ. He’d want all the attention to go to Him.”

Graham revealed that the 7-foot bronze statue was created to point people looking at it to Jesus Christ.

The statue depicts Billy Graham holding an open Bible.

“What I like about this statue is my father is standing there with an open Bible and his hand on the Scriptures,” Graham explained. “And the Scripture on the open Bible – I’m not sure if it was engraved, but I know what the reference was, and that’s Galatians 6:14, where the Bible says, ‘But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.'”

Graham said the pedestal contained two Bible verses that point people to Jesus Christ.

On one side is John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

The other side has John 14:6, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Graham said the pedestal had the same epitaph his father had on his tombstone:  “Preacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ.”
