Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez found herself in the middle of a new scandal.
This one revolves around her relationships.
And what Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez did with a man on a trip could land her in legal trouble.
According to new reporting by the Washington Free Beacon, Ocasio-Cortez wants to have it both ways in terms of reporting requirements for her fiancé Riley Roberts.
The Free Beacon found that in four legal filings submitted to the House Ethics Committee about her overseas travel in 2022, Ocasio-Cortez lists Roberts as her spouse.
That could become an issue as if Ocasio-Cortez and Roberts are married Ocasio-Cortez filed false financial disclosure forms as she did not list Roberts as her husband on her latest submissions.
If the two were married, then Ocasio-Cortez failed to report stocks, assets, and income that Roberts may own or have earned.
An Ocasio-Cortez spokeswoman told the Free Beacon that the House Ethics has an expansive definition of spouse to include “long-term partners.”
“They are not legally married,” Ocasio-Cortez spokeswoman Lauren Hitt relayed in a statement to the Washington Free Beacon. “House Ethics has commonly recognized the term spouse to extend to long-term partners.”
But that is not true as the House Ethics Committee clearly defines a spouse as “someone to whom you are legally married.”
If Ocasio-Cortez misrepresented her relationship status on disclosure forms then she could face fines, censure, or even imprisonment.
“Willful misrepresentations in congressional financial disclosure forms could result in civil penalties of up to $50,000, or, in extreme cases, imprisonment of up to five years, according to the House Ethics Committee. Ocasio-Cortez could also be reprimanded by the committee or be censured by a majority vote of the House if she intentionally concealed her husband’s finances from the public, said Paul Kamenar, an attorney for the National Legal and Policy Center,” the Free Beacon reported.
Ocasio-Cortez is one of the loudest voices on the left smearing Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas over a series of fake scandals dreamed up by the left-wing media about Thomas’ financial disclosures.
But now Ocasio-Cortez is mired in an actual disclosure scandal that is real and on which her office has provided no good answers.
