The Democrats’ quest to destroy Attorney General William Barr took a sick turn for the worse.
It involved an underhanded deal.
And William Barr just got hit with a surprise attack that he never saw coming.
Democrats threatened to hold Attorney General Barr in contempt of court over his refusal to turn over the unredacted Mueller Report.
Barr correctly stated he could not do so because it would violate the law against revealing secret grand jury testimony.
So Barr and the House Judiciary Committee worked out a compromise.
Members of the Committee could read select portions of the unredacted report at the DOJ.
Committee members could also take notes on what they read and take them with them when they left the DOJ.
This was done to avoid a contempt vote.
And then on Tuesday, the Democrats voted to hold the Attorney General in contempt anyway.
The Daily Caller reports:
The House of Representatives voted Tuesday to hold Bill Barr and Don McGahn in contempt of Congress.
Both President Donald Trump’s attorney general and former White House counsel defied subpoenas from the House Judiciary Committee, and congressional Democrats followed through on threats to hold them in contempt. The lower chamber voted in favor of H. Res. 430 by a margin of 229-191 in what was a party line vote.
Trump administration officials have come under fire for their handling of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report, which concluded that there was no evidence that the president’s campaign colluded with the Russian government. Mueller declined to weigh in on the possibility that Trump obstructed justice over the course of his investigation.
There is no negotiating or dealing with House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler.
Nadler doesn’t really care about access to the Mueller Report.
Nadler just wants to create the aura of a scandal to make it easier to press forward with impeachment.
