Chuck Schumer built his entire career threatening Democrats who stepped out of line.
Now a sitting Democrat congresswoman just crossed a major line.
Chuck Schumer branded it despicable when a top House Democrat walked into a Michigan church with Republican Mike Rogers.
The Moment That Ended Democratic Unity in Michigan
Haley Stevens lost the Michigan Democrat Senate primary to Abdul El-Sayed in August.
She endorsed him anyway, gave the unity speech, and showed up to the unity breakfast.
Then El-Sayed's campaign told her to stay away.
Why?
Because Stevens called on El-Sayed to condemn an outside PAC ad linking U.S. aid to Israel to high grocery prices.

El-Sayed's response was to accuse Stevens of "relitigating a primary that ended three months ago."
So Sunday morning, two days before Election Day, Stevens walked into Perfecting Church in Detroit alongside Republican Mike Rogers.
“Our Democratic nominee for Senate said I was no longer welcome in his campaign and that I should stay away,” Stevens said in a video announcing the endorsement. “And he’s right. And that’s why I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the United States Senate today.”
She also discussed her decision with reporters.
"My vote for Senate is going to be with Mike Rogers," she told reporters. "Because we have to stand with country. We can't stand with hate, we can't stand with Hasan Piker."
Why Hasan Piker Is the Name That Keeps Destroying El-Sayed
Piker is a Twitch streamer who said America deserved 9/11.
He campaigned alongside El-Sayed at rallies on college campuses throughout the spring.
He said Hamas is "a thousand times better" than Israel.
He said Jewish Americans were "making antisemitism worse" – then El-Sayed finally distanced himself in August, after months of joint appearances.
El-Sayed called the Israeli government "evil" in the same interview cycle where he was being asked about Piker.

Stevens' own fiancé – who is Jewish – announced days before the endorsement that he was voting for Rogers.
This isn't a political dispute.
This is a Democrat congresswoman looking at who her party nominated and deciding she's not going to pretend she's fine with it forty-eight hours before voters go to the polls.
What the Democratic Meltdown Actually Reveals
Schumer called it "a despicable betrayal."
“Haley Stevens has chosen to dangerously betray Michigan families’ healthcare, freedoms and future with her horrific endorsement of Mike Rogers. Abdul El-Sayed must win – because Michigan and our country deserve better,” Schumer said.
Pelosi said Stevens had "dangerously betrayed Michigan families' healthcare, freedoms and future."
Jeffries called Rogers "a partisan hack."
Michigan's Democrat Party chair declared Stevens was no longer a member of the party.
Not one of them said a word about Hasan Piker.
Not one addressed El-Sayed calling the Israeli government evil.
Not one touched the ad linking U.S. Israel policy to grocery prices that started this entire confrontation.
The Democrat leadership chose to run a candidate who spent months on stage with a streamer who cheered 9/11 – and they are furious at the congresswoman who drew the line.
Cross-party endorsements have happened before.
Joe Manchin endorsed Republican Lisa Murkowski.

Lieberman famously endorsed John McCain.
Those were controversial.
None of them got the endorser stripped of party membership by sundown.
What's different here isn't the act – it's what the act is about.
Stevens isn't crossing the aisle over tax policy or trade.
She's saying her party nominated an antisemite and she won't put her name on it two days before Michigan votes.
The Democrat Party just told you that covering for antisemitism is the price of admission – and they'll destroy anyone who refuses to pay it.
