Democrats Were Fuming When Bill Maher Spent One Friday Night Dismantling His Own Party

Adam Schiff called Obama's war powers language "totally vague" — the moment he found out whose words they were is something you have to see.

Now Maher has two liberal guests in the same chair, and the knives are out for his own side.

He did not just embarrass his guests — he exposed the reflex that is going to cost Democrats the midterms.

Schiff Walks Into the Oldest Trap in Television

Senator Adam Schiff came on Real Time to do what Democrats have been doing for two years: attack Trump's military operations in Iran and demand congressional approval.

Maher let him warm up, then read a statement about presidential war powers — "from the administration," he said.

Schiff called it "totally vague."

Maher paused.

"Okay. Because that's from Obama about Libya."

The silence that followed was the sound of a man watching his entire argument collapse in real time.

Schiff scrambled, pivoting immediately to Syria and Assad — a different country, a different war, a different year — frantically searching for solid ground that no longer existed.

The quote dated to April 2011, when Obama sent the U.S. military into Libya for seven months without a single vote from Congress.

Schiff never once forced a War Powers vote over Libya.

The same senator now demanding Congress stop Trump from "abusing his power" had no objection to identical legal reasoning when a Democrat used it to bomb a country that posed no threat to American soil.

Don Lemon Proves He Has No Idea Why Wealth Taxes Destroy States

The wealth tax exchange was almost worse — because Lemon was not caught in a trap.

He just said the quiet part out loud.

Maher laid out the basic problem with California's proposed 5% billionaire tax: implement it at the state level, and the billionaires leave.

Lemon's response suggested he had never thought about this for thirty seconds.

Gavin Newsom — one of the most liberal governors in America — is fighting the same tax Sanders is pushing, because he understands what Lemon apparently does not.

Newsom said last month he would do "what I have to do to protect the state" and called the measure's defeat a certainty.

Schiff, sitting right there, said he was for it anyway.

When the comedian in the room is explaining basic economics to the senator and the television host, something has gone catastrophically wrong.

The Eye-Roll That Tells You Everything About November

The third moment was the one that mattered most.

Schiff made the case for why Democrats need to keep hammering Trump.

Maher's response was plain: voters see it and think that's all Democrats have — and it has become an eye-roll.

He was right.

Trump has won a presidential election twice and dominated American politics for a decade.

James Carville recently went on a podcast and announced he has Trump Derangement Syndrome, does not want to get rid of it, and wants to "get worse."

That is not a political strategy heading into the 2026 midterms.

That is a party describing its own irrelevance out loud.

Democrats are running into November with no economic message, no foreign policy consistency, and no answer for why the rules changed the moment a Republican moved into the White House.

Bill Maher — a committed liberal who told his audience he does not hate the Iran operation — can see it clearly.

His guests could not.

That is the entire problem.
