Joe Biden Told a Grieving Black Crowd That He Was Smarter Than All of Them

Joe Biden just stood at a Black man's funeral and insulted every person in the room.

That's what happened at Jesse Jackson's memorial service in Chicago last Friday.

And Jesse Jackson Jr. showed up the next day and said exactly what everyone was already thinking – that the three Democrat ex-presidents who hijacked his father's funeral never actually knew the man they were pretending to mourn.

Democrats Turned a Funeral Into a Campaign Rally – Again

Biden was supposed to be honoring Jesse Jackson.

Instead, he spent his time at the podium telling the crowd – a crowd that was predominantly black – about his stutter, how people laughed at him, and then delivered this: "I'm a hell of a lot smarter than most of you."

The audience laughed nervously.

Biden caught himself and said it was "all kidding aside" – but you can't un-ring that bell.

There's context: he was defending stutter victims against the assumption they're unintelligent.

But the man who called Kamala Harris "Vice President Trump" at a NATO press conference chose Jesse Jackson's funeral to defend his own intellect.

He wasn't defending stutter victims. He was defending Joe Biden.

The same Joe Biden who spent the rest of his speech rambling about Senate committee assignments, his friendship with Teddy Kennedy, and how much he personally knows about foreign policy.

"I've forgotten more about what Putin does and these guys and Xi than most people know," Biden told a crowd gathered to grieve Jesse Jackson.

Jesse Jackson's Own Son Called Them Out

The next morning, Jesse Jackson Jr. walked to a microphone and delivered the sharpest rebuke of the entire week.

"Yesterday I listened for several hours of three United States presidents who do not know Jesse Jackson," he said.

Three Democrat presidents – Biden, Obama, Clinton – told by the dead man's own son that they didn't know his father.

Obama's 30-minute eulogy was aimed squarely at Trump, warning about "every day we wake up to some new assault on our democratic institutions."

Clinton told stories about his own impeachment.

Biden talked about himself from the opening sentence to the last.

What makes this worse is that Jesse Jackson Jr. had asked – before his father was even buried – that everyone keep politics out of the services. "Do not bring your politics out of respect to Rev. Jesse Jackson," he said at a press conference following his father's death.

Democrats couldn't manage it for a single afternoon.

Democrats Have Been Doing This for 24 Years

This isn't new. Democrats turn funerals into rallies – and voters notice.

In 2002, Senator Paul Wellstone died in a plane crash eleven days before his Minnesota Senate reelection.

Democrats brought 20,000 people to Williams Arena and turned his memorial into a partisan rally.

Republican Senate leader Trent Lott – who attended out of respect – got booed.

Governor Jesse Ventura walked out. "I went to pay my respects in the manner we were asked to do so," he said, "and I think it was very deceitful to turn it into a political rally."

The backlash was swift. Bill Clinton's own former pollster found 49% of voters said the Wellstone memorial made them less likely to vote Democrat.

Among independents, 67% said the same.

Republicans won Wellstone's Senate seat.

They flipped the chamber.

They gained seats nationally.

Democrats learned nothing.

The Man Who Always Believed He Was the Smartest in the Room

Joe Biden has been telling America how smart he is for 50 years.

He ran for president in 1988 and got caught plagiarizing a speech from British Labour leader Neil Kinnock – word for word, lifting even Kinnock's working-class biography as his own. He dropped out in disgrace.

He ran again in 2008 and dropped out before New Hampshire.

He spent decades in the Senate telling anyone who would listen how much he understood about foreign policy and world leaders.

And then his own staff spent four years hiding the fact that the man couldn't do the job anymore.

Amie Parnes, co-author of Fight: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House, said Biden's inner circle bore direct responsibility for concealing his decline from the American people. By the end of his term, she wrote, Biden was "a shell of himself."

That's the man who stood up at Jesse Jackson's funeral and told the crowd he was smarter than they were.

Jesse Jackson spent 60 years fighting for the dignity of Black Americans.

He deserved a eulogy – not a Joe Biden ego trip.

Jesse Jackson Jr. knew it. He said it out loud. The rest of the country is catching up.
